Gearing up for Spring 2024

Greetings! As we look forward to spring and summer 2024, we are so excited for the opportunities ahead. What started as a hobby has turned into our passion, and each winter, as spring inches closer, we cannot wait to get our hands in the dirt with new projects.

2024 marks our 3rd year of running TAVA Gardening and Landscaping. Much of what Mike and I enjoy so much about this buisness, is that no two projects are the same, and with each project we use different skillsets and knowledge to execute each project with excellence.

Over the winter months we do cheerfully complete hardscaping and xeriscaping projects (in spite of the weather challenges that always pop up), but there is a particular level of excitement about the imminent return early spring when we can also incorporate plant and lawn design and installation into projects.

March 15 marks the first day that we install plants and lawns. It is exciting because it is so brief, as we conclude these types of projects September 30.

My (Julie’s) skillset is horticultural knowledge including plant care, plant selection and maintenance best practices, specific for this region. It is no secret that gardening in Colorado Springs comes with many challenges due to our extreme weather patterns and diverse climates. Growing a flower garden in the Black Forest area will vary greatly from growing a garden in Falcon, or the foothills, or central Colorado Springs. The ideal plant selection and care will be different from location to location in this area, depending on the elevation, soils and wildlife that are present. I find these challenges exciting as they are always different from garden to garden, and I am constantly learning. I love talking with clients about gardening challenges and barriers, and offering plant selection and care options for best outcomes.

Mike’s skillset is more attuned to the complexities that surround hardscape construction. No two fences, patios, lawns or xeriscape designs will ever be the same. Since we are both highly creative people who view this business as an art form, the selection of materials in creating an outdoor space are not taken lightly and are chosen to best compliment the unique property and budget of the client.

Ultimately, the service we aim to provide for each client, is complete enjoyment of their outdoor space.

A last update, this winter we decided to purchase a mini skid loader to increase the efficiency of projects as well as ensure the safety of our employees. Swinging a shovel for many hours is serious physical labor! We won’t likely use this skid loader for every project, but it will be helpful for completion of many projects to come.

Thirty-one days until spring 2024!
